My Minifigs Know What You Did In the Dark... SO LIGHT EM UP

So having finished putting the X-Files Lego Set together last week... I resolved to include one of the third party light sets that have illuminated the Lego experience!

Brought to you by BrickBling!

Except that when I opened the light kit, I found out the instructions didn't come with the box. If only because the instructions are 76 PAGES LONG.

So I had to download the PDF, print all the pages out, and THEN find time this weekend to get the light kit plugged in.

Given all the small pieces involved - the nano wiring, the tiny LED blocks that need placing - I wasn't able to install and take photos at the same time, but hopefully you can see how it went.

Had to pop the hood off...

Had to wrap a sticker of LED
Lights around this bit, can you see it?

See all those clear plastic bumps underneath the UFO?

That's where more Lights are gonna go!

So here's the minifigs all posing during this stage...
Of course Mulder and Scully are over in the corner
proving their trust issues! I'm a 'Shipper dammit!

Had to break apart the two halves, as focusing on the top half
is going to require a lot of work.

Oh MY GOD. ACTUAL WORKING FLASHLIGHTS!!!

A sad thing about installing light sets
is that the Lego team didn't plan ahead
for open spots to floss the wiring
through. The company needs to
understand that inserting lights
to these sets anymore is how
builders will work. Please
plan ahead from now on, guys.

The light effect for the UFO beam!

More wiring connecting to more wiring.
I had to pull out several trees to work on
placing the wires safely. Still didn't get them right.

Lighting for the office ceiling.
The diagram I think had this in the wrong
spot, because the wiring was too short
and I had to pull things apart and reset
the light block closer to the back edge.

Also, the lamp gets a light LED.

Here's the backside where I'm trying to wrap up the cords
the way the instructions said. Problem was, the cords wouldn't stay wrapped.
I also had to go back and put pieces back in place when they
popped loose when I tried to get the plugs into the power strips.

Doing a quick check with the power strip
to make sure everything's plugged in...
You can see it, can't you?

What frustrated me the most was how I had to take apart the existing Lego blocks to thread the light cords, to where I had to redo various steps during the installation. It's why you don't see as many photos as I got closer to completion. As much as the lights make this look SO MUCH COOLER, I still didn't get some wires hidden as well as I should, so this isn't a perfect build, alas.

BUT NOW IT'S DONE! NOW I HAVE A FULLY FUNCTIONAL X-FILES SET AND...

(The unopened box containing the Star Trek Bridge Set starts calling to me)

...oh no...

THE END?

(Props to BrickBling for making this light set available)
