Building the X-Files Lego Set: Day One and Digging In

So here we are at the main event: BUILDING THE X-FILES LEGO SET!

(cue fan screaming in the background)

Look at how huge the box is!

From here on in, it's a photo log of each major step of putting pieces together. I've decided to start with bags one through three, and we'll see how far I can progress getting this done.

It's the booklet of DOOM! Plus my thumb.

Oh hey there's more to this than just the instructions.
They're putting some effort into this being a collectible.

Just in case you didn't know what The X-Files was about.
I think 95 percent of the people who got this set were already fans...

And welcome... TO BAG ONE

First things first: SCULLY!!! This one is Field Agent Scully!

She will again supervise the construction to make sure she gets her desk!

NOOO! NOT ANOTHER BEE! (damn bees!)

There's an extra Lego Bee! NO! STAY AWAY FROM SCULLY, DAMN BEE!

Onto Bag Two

It's not a proper desk, alas.

Aha! SHELVING!

The thing about Lego, or any other model kit you put together.
It will look great when it's all finished and 3-dimensional.

Oh no. STICKERS. I hate this part of any kit build.
If you're off by so much as a nano-inch, it'll trigger your OCD...

It's okay... it's just... off by a... gods, gotta live with it...

In the meantime, there's a default Lego brick
with an airline ticket on it, no sticker required.

At least Scully gets her microscope.

They say good things come in threes...

Wait... whose minifig head is that?!?!
Oh, never mind, that's a globe.

So here's the head of... wait... Assistant Director Skinner?!
Where's Mulder?! Where's the minifig 'shipping we were promised?!

SKINNER: Agent Scully, where is Mulder?
SCULLY: Well, he's in another bag, sir...

Wait... is that... THE POSTER?!

"I Want To Believe"! And it's not a sticker! That means the LEGO people
created a special brick to do this! That is a huge thing to do!

This is where the details from the show start appearing.
Can you guess which episode that sticker refers to?
(Hint: it wasn't as popular as the "Ice" episode that preceded it)

More sticker stuff. It looks like...

Yep. Bulletin board material.

Even more stickers!

This sticker has TWO references! If you zoom in to see it...

We're starting to see an actual basement office here.

Um... it's... a thing?

Oh, it's a filing cabinet... into which X-Files can go...

Lego has a default seeds brick, so that's Mulder's sunflower seeds...

Going INTO the files! Take THAT, evil government conspiracy!

And that... is Day One of the build.

Stay tuned for the next stage, which hopefully includes a Mulder minifig! BRING ON THE UST, PEOPLE.
